Frequently Asked Questions
I’m not sure what’s wrong. Can I still come?
Yes. Lots of people start with “I just don’t feel like myself.” You don’t need a label, a diagnosis or a neat explanation. Working that out is part of what we do together.
What happens on the free discovery call?
It’s a relaxed 30-minute chat. You can tell me a bit about what’s going on, ask any questions, and get a feel for whether I’m the right person for you. There’s no obligation to book anything afterwards.
Should I choose counselling or hypnotherapy?
You don’t have to decide on your own. Counselling suits most things life throws at you. The Grounded Collection is designed specifically for emotional eating and the stress, pain and exhaustion behind it. If you’re unsure, we’ll work it out on the discovery call.
Will I be asleep or out of control during hypnosis?
No. Hypnosis is a deeply relaxed, focused state, a bit like being absorbed in a good book. You’re aware of what’s happening, you can hear everything, and you can’t be made to do anything you don’t want to. That includes clucking like a chicken, or any of the other embarrassing things you may have seen on TV!
How long are sessions?
Counselling sessions last 50 minutes. Hypnotherapy session lengths depend on your programme, and I’ll explain this on your discovery call.
Do you work online?
Yes, with clients anywhere in the world. We can find a time that works across time zones. Face-to-face sessions are available in Monmouth.
What if I get upset during a session?
Then you get upset, and that’s completely fine. Tears are welcome, and so are bad days, silences and not knowing what to say. I meet you where you are, with a box of tissues.
Is what I say confidential?
Yes, with a few limits. For example, I’d need to act if I were seriously concerned about your safety or someone else’s. I explain this clearly before we begin, and details are set out in the contract you’ll receive. Like all ethical practitioners, I also have regular clinical supervision, where nothing that identifies you is shared.
Are you qualified and registered?
Yes. I hold a Professional Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling Practice (Prof Dip PsyC), a hypnotherapy diploma (Dip Hyp Cs) and a CMA-accredited Life Coach Diploma. I’m an Accredited Registrant with the NCPS (National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society) and work to their code of ethics.
Do I need a referral from my GP?
No. You can contact me directly.
What’s your cancellation policy?
I ask for 24 hours’ notice to cancel or rearrange. Sessions cancelled with less notice are charged in full.
How do I pay?
By bank transfer (BACS) before each session.
